FOOLISH GIRL

Are you a Trekkie Fan? Do you love Sci-Fi? Have you ever wondered what was out there, not outside, but out there— beyond our moon?

When asked if I was a Trekkie Fan, my response was always the same. “No, I’ve never been.”
I tried to watch Star Trek with my brothers. The twins would say, “Come on mouse, Trek’s on.” They LOVE it! By the time the intro was done, I’d quietly sneak out of the living room. For me, it was dolls or writing over Star Trek. When I wrote, I wrote with characters inspired by my family. I mean— let’s face it, I was little girl who wanted ANYTHING but that!

I must digress, since this is not my writing, it’s about a story that made me question my views of Sci-Fi. A story that made me wonder what else I had foolishly avoided.
Granted, I write paranormal, romance adventures, and although I love creating my own little world, I’ve never reached beyond earth.

That is— until now. I am officially a Sci-Fi Fan! WOW! How foolish I was to purposely avoid such an exciting genre.

So what caused this sudden revelation? Allow me to introduce you to an EXCITING BOOK! A book I initially intended for my teenage son, one that quickly caused arguments over who could read it next.

I kid you not, this book actually caused arguments among my sons, their friends and myself included. Everyone wanted to read it at the same time, and last night, it was finally my turn!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am friends with Author Dean Sault. I adore him. He is kind, intelligent and I am blessed to call him friend.

When he told me about this book, I ordered. I figured that if I didn’t like it, it would still be a huge success with my boys.

I have two boys and they love Star Trek, Sci-Fi and all war stories. I’m pretty sure I can lip sync the movies Black Hawk Down, Behind Enemy Lines and Broken Arrow without skipping a beat. If they are not watching war movies they’re playing Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty numbers 4 – 9 (Modern Warfare, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 2) Gears of War 2 and 3, League of Legends and, the list goes on.

Without a doubt, this book fits well with our household, and in little time, many of our friends and family were also interested.

If you or a beloved one loves Sci-Fi, war stories or exciting adventures then this book is a must have! Get ready to spiral into a world of amazement, and prepare yourself for The Last Human War.

THE LAST HUMAN WAR by Author Dean Sault

Three hundred years passed since the end of the galaxy-wide Human War.  Alien scientists on the planet of Tanarac spent most of that time manipulating the DNA of their captives.  They hoped that one day a less aggressive human species might be able to live in peace with the other sentient races of the galaxy.

The Heptari Empire suspects their former Tanarac allies of hiding secret colonies of human descendants.  At the end of the Human War, Tanarac promised to allow their POWs to die off naturally.  They lied.   Now, the Heptari Royal Codae  threatens to "finish the job" of exterminating all  humans, a genocide they began three hundred years before.

Will Tanarac surrender their prisoners to be killed at the hands of the Heptaris?  Or, does a more sinister motive underlie the surprise arrival of powerful Heptari starships at the Tanarac capitol world?

Survival of mankind, and indeed the Tanarac race, will depend on the actions of a young human who escapes from a Tanarac POW camp . . . a mining plow operator with an unexpected power . . . Simon of Striker Twelve.

Beware of predators, they come in all shapes and sizes!

Why do people try to swindle others? I am sure that is an age-old question.  Age-old … did I really type that? Ugh, I am turning into my parents.

Anyhow, this blog is not about writing, books I have read or authors I have come to admire. This is a warning to all my friends.

Since I did not request the attached email and I have no idea who this person really is. I have decided to copy and paste the email for you all to see. In addition, I find the idea of the sender expecting me (or anyone for that matter) to give him the confidentiality they request to be ... well, it is beyond ridiculous! Why give him that type of respect? When you read the letter, you will see that it states that the sender and one other person (supposedly me) have the rights to a deceased person's money. What gives this sender the right? Why would I be entitled that ‘so-called’ money more so than researchers trying to find a cure for Cancer or Aids, countries that are struggling, or families that are living on the streets?

I don't ... and neither does the sender! Besides, that is not what this letter is about. This is identity theft made easy! My Goddess, lazy thieves ... who knew? Therefore, basically, if I send them all my personal information that they requested, they could create a new identity. Sure, it would be great if they were to pay all my bills for me, but that is not their intention.

Below is a copy of the email. Please watch out for scams like this, even if it's from a bank you currently use, or a successful bank you are familiar with. Banks would never send you an email requesting your personal information. Not without a personal confirmation first! Banks would initially make contact with you prior to requesting personal information. If a bank cannot contact you directly, they would attach a message on your bankcard, asking you to visit the nearest branch. Some have sent emails asking you to contact a specific person at a branch with a phone number, but they would never (make a first attempt via email), requesting your personal account information.

Identity theft is out there, it is serious and it hurts.

Be safe my friends,
Sass :)

Oh! As for the sender of the email below, be careful! Karma has everyone's number, and Karma has a way of balancing the good and the bad. You are playing a dangerous game of Karma Roulette!

Coming October 10, 2012!

Join me for an in-depth interview with the award winning, author Stacey Eaton!
“It sounded so simple in theory; ready... aim... fire... but what actually transpired was so much more.” Officer Nicole Nolan holds the gun steady in her hands, knowing that life will be forever altered once she pulls the trigger. Her position as a small town police officer is to protect those who cannot protect themselves. It is her job, her career and her life. Amanda stands where protection does not exist. With several failed relationships behind her, Amanda turns a blind eye to the possessiveness Josh displays in order to soothe her desperate need to be loved. As the mental abuse turns violent, Amanda must deal with the denial and embarrassment of being a victim once again. With her emotional and physical health hanging on the edge, she must fight to regain control of her life. A gripping story with one final destination, but will it be life or death? If you would like to pick up the book or have already read it and have questions, please send me an email with your questions. MY REVIEW OF CHASING AMANDA

The moment I read this book I knew I had to write a review about it. I give this story five GOLDEN stars! _________________________________________________________________________ Chasing Amanda by Melissa Foster
_________________________________________________________________________ Judging by the cover and first few pages, I initially thought Chasing Amanda was a story about a mother searching for her lost child. That is not the case! It’s about believing in yourself and never giving up when you know you can make a difference. Chasing Amanda is an inspiring story. It’s filled with just the right amount of twists and turns. Most of the characters held specific (well needed) roles, and not once did I find myself bored or questioning the authors thought process. The lesson was clear, never give up! No matter who says what … if you have the ability, and can make a difference … then ignore those who get in the way and fight to help those you can! No matter what genre you normally read, Chasing Amanda should be added to your shelf. We all have days where time or our surroundings force us to give up on our beliefs; Chasing Amanda, is a trophy that will prompt you to keep going! It’s an inspirational story that reminds you that although the world around you may never speak about certain things … it doesn’t mean they aren’t there or they don’t exist. I must admit, there was a few times when I needed to go back and reread a page or two, but other than that - this story was the perfect escape from my busy day! Chasing Amanda deserves five GOLDEN stars! Blessed be, Sass :) ________________________________________________________________________

Today I am interviewing Robert B. Lowe, the author of Project Moses.

Who is Robert B. Lowe? Robert is a Pulitzer-prize winning author whose fiction is based in San Francisco. His past experiences include a 12-year career in investigative journalism and a Harvard Law School degree, which enable him to write gripping mystery thrillers in both the legal and journalistic fields. Robert Lowe draws his inspiration from John Grisham, Dick Francis and Lee Child and adds his own San Francisco twist. His readers will enjoy his references to the city's landmarks such as Chinatown, North Beach and Pacific Heights and the Bay area's foodie culture. Robert is a family man, and when he isn't writing he enjoys a day at the golf course and spending time with his wife and daughters.
_________________________________________________________________________
About Project Moses. Enzo Lee, 37, a burned out reporter, has forsaken investigative reporting on the East Coast to churn out feature fluff in San Francisco. He likes his North Beach apartment, steps away from his Chinatown roots. Running, tai chi, great food, women who are attracted to his exotic looks. Life is good. Then, Lee is ordered to cover the unexplained deaths of a local judge and prosecutor. Intrigued by the connection, and the judge’s attractive niece, Sarah Armstrong, Lee begins to uncover a bioterrorism scandal whose perpetrators - including government officials and Silicon Valley titans - will kill to conceal. When Lee and Sarah become targets, the question becomes whether the pair can evade their hunters and piece together the story before their time runs out. Project Moses is set in San Francisco, New York and Silicon Valley.
________________________________________________________________________
On September 8, 2012, I sat down and opened Project Moses. Talk about a fast pace action thriller that will keep you guessing. Robert’s style of writing is unique; he has talent of hooking you in and never letting you go.
From the moment I opened Project Moses, I knew without a doubt that this was the story for me. I love reading thrillers, Project Moses quickly landed on my top five favorite thrillers, and I can’t wait for book two!
The characters were relatable, the flow and storyline had me lost for hours on end, and the only disappointing part was when I finished reading Project Moses on September 9th. It was a story that I never wanted to end.
I enjoyed this story so much that I needed to learn more about the author. Robert Lowe was kind enough to accept my invitation for an interview, I hope you enjoy!
________________________________________________________________________

Sass: Hi Robert, thank you for joining me. What sparked the idea for Project Moses?
Actually, there are two parts to the answer.  The first is that I had always wanted to write a book and suddenly had a window to do it.  Mystery-thriller was my choice because I’ve been a fan of that genre since I was a kid and felt like I understood what makes a good one.  Project Moses involves a biotechnology conspiracy.  I have followed the progression of genetics technology with fascination.  It’s such a powerful tool.  But, at the same time can be misused and raise ethical questions.

Sass:  Project Moses is an interesting title, how did you come up with the title?
I pulled it out of the book itself.  The conspiracy starts with a government program and that, in essence, goes rogue.  I called the government program “Project Moses” because of the plague/famine analogy.  Plus, it seemed like the sort of name the U.S. Defense Department would generate.  I decided to use it as the book title.  I’m working on the next book and had pretty much the same experience.  In trying to come up with a thematic heading within the story – in this case a subject line for an email – I found the title.

Sass: Are experiences or characters based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
It’s no accident that I’ve been an investigative reporter and a lawyer and the two main characters are…a reporter and lawyer.  There are snippets of things – places, interviews, etc. – that are based on past experience.  In terms of choices, responses to situations or next steps, having been a reporter allowed me to put myself in the shoes of the main character.   The characters generally are composites – pieces of various actual folks.

Sass: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part for me was drawing the characters and their relationships.  I think I labored over that more than anything.  A lot of it was ‘discovering’ who they were as I went through the process.  Then, figuring out how to portray that without going into a lengthy explanation.  Showing vs. only telling.

Sass: Did you learn anything from writing your book and if so … what was it?
The whole process has taught me that readers of this genre really want to be engaged with the story and the characters.  If you don’t get in the way with something that is too clunky, they’ll generally go with you. I’ve also learned that a big issue for me is putting in too much in terms of characters and subplots.  Generally, readers have enjoyed that Project Moses is a somewhat involved plot.  But, I need to guard against overloading the story.

Sass: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
To the extent there is a message, it’s not that genetic tinkering or modifying food is a bad thing.  It may be more that we should watch out for the law of unintended consequences.  Eventually we’ll find out a gene that makes apples juicier also makes sparrows sterile or something like that.  It’s just too complex and people doing the actual research are incentivized to ignore problems.   On the character side, one of my beliefs is that very few people – aside perhaps from psychotic killers – actual believe they are evil people even if they are doing evil things.  There is always a rationalization.  I believe that’s true in life and it’s reflected in my characters.

Sass: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thanks for reading Project Moses and supporting independent authors.  This is an entertainment genre and that was my goal for this book – create the kind of story that has you flipping the pages after you should have the lights out.  If it does that for you, I’m happy!

Sass: Thank you, Robert for this opportunity to interview you. It was an honor to meet with you and to read Project Moses. I hear that book two is in the making, when can your readers expect the release?
I hadn’t actually planned on creating a series but readers gravitated toward the main character and a couple of secondary ones as well.  I listened to that and have built the second book around them.  It’s called “Divine Fury” and should be out by November.
Thanks much for this interview!

THIS IS NOT A PLUG TO SELL MY BOOKS!

I am not blogging this for sales ... this is a warning to all readers (friends).

Who am I? I am Sass Cadeaux, I am an underground writer who stepped out of the darkness … or so I thought. However, what I’ve experienced in the past year has made my hair curl.

I charge what it cost to publish the book, including cover art and editing service. I try as hard as I can to keep the cost as low as possible for my readers (friends); and when this was brought to my attention … I nearly fainted!

A reader was excited about purchasing a used copy of New Raine for $54.00 Canadian. That is wrong! I advised them of my Author Spotlight Link and showed them the rates. They were being overcharged, and I can’t sit back and watch such a horrible thing happen to any reader (friend) of mine!

If there was a SAFE way to share my stories for free … I would! This breaks my heart to see my stories being overcharged. If you want a copy one of my books and cannot find them on the internet, email me at Sass@sasscadeaux.com
I’d be happy to help. But what that reader (friend) experienced was wrong!

The only thing I’ve asked of my readers is IF they liked the story … please share it with your friends. I’ve never asked them to recommend buying my books, and I make sure that I DON’T limit the amount of downloads. Pay for it once and share it 1000 times ... GREAT!!! I am all for that!

The COTS Series is NOT my income! It is a part of me, and I am not selling a part of me for profit, I am sharing my stories the SAFEST way I possibly can. Every dollar I make goes towards the next release, the website and yes … if any funds are left over they go to charity!

I know that I’m blessed with the best readers (friends) ever! They support my stories and understand me. I love them for who they are … just as they accept me for being me.

Not only do I find what happened to my reader (friend) painfully insulting, I am deeply offended and hurt for all my readers (friends). Please see the links below, they are safe to buy from and the prices are correct.

THIS IS NOT A PLUG TO SELL MY BOOKS!
If you know someone who already purchased a story of mine, borrow it, read it and, I hope that it helps you escape reality!

I share the first five chapters of each story on Wattpad, each story has a copyright and they are mine. Those five chapters are raw, without edit, but they give you a clear understanding of the storyline. Please feel free to check them out! http://www.wattpad.com/user/scadeaux

You can buy The COTS Series directly from my author link at http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/SassCadeaux
Autograph copies from http://justtheessentials.ca/
The cost is a little higher, but only for the additional shipping and handling, and not for the autograph! The autograph is free!

Blessed be,
Sass :)

A) The truth is…it was all fate. Sass posted on Wattpad that she needed a Beta Reader. I sent her my resume and Sass contacted me right away. She began talking about how she needed a junior editor, and gave me some work to test. The next thing I knew, contracts were in the making. Sass said that she saw that I had the potential for much more.

Q) Have you read any of The COTS or the Unity Series yet?
A) COTS, Yes! The Unity Series, not yet,

Q) In your own words, what can the readers expect to see in the near future from Sass Cadeaux?
A) Lets see, what you can expect from Sass in the future is more excellent stories. Well done stories that draw you in and keep you captivated.

Q) What projects are you working on, and what will soon be released?
A) I am currently working on The Falls Series along side with Sass. Whenever she finishes a few chapters she sends them to me for review. Once Silk (our senior editor) finishes Sweet Expressions, I will be the second to read it. Sass likes to know that her work is as flawless as possible. She doesn't want her readers feeling that they spent money on mistakes.

Q) If a reader wanted to email you could they?
A) Yes, anyone can get a hold of any team member at www.sasscadeaux.com. Just click on the contact us tab and fill it in. Sass personally receives the emails and she distributes them, if it is addressed to anyone other than her.

Q) Is there anything else you'd like to say to the readers about the stories, the team or your new position?
A) The stories are amazing. Sass's Muse is great. I think she will be writing for years to come. I look forward to sharing the Falls Series. I am enjoying being able to read as Sass goes along. I am happy to be part of the team.

Thank you Lee, and we all wish you the Brightest Blessings! Welcome to the family!
Much love, Sass :)

Lee is currently editing our newest series The Secrets of Albion Falls. I hope you enjoy the following interview, and join me in welcoming her to our team.

WHY SELF-PUBLISH?

Seven months ago, I never would have believed that all this was possible, but it is! Who do I have to thank? You! My friends, readers, and those who enjoy my stories and support me.

I am constantly asked why I self-publish instead of going through a well-known publisher. Well, to simply put it, the genre that my stories fall into is not highly popular with most publishers in Canada. The ones that accept my genre are flooded daily with queries and submissions.

So…when and if they have the time to read my query, they then have to judge the whole story by a short blurb. If my hook isn’t sharper than the hook they read before, my query and chances of submitting a synopsis and manuscript would be filed into the garbage with the other dull queries.

Sure…I’ve been rejected, accepted and offered a small deal. But in truth, I have not sent out more than five queries. Out of those five, two were shot down right away. It was far from personal; it was addressed to Dear Writer (lol). One offered me a contract, but they were on the writer beware list; one stated their limitations and suggested that they would be able to publish my books in five years and, the other, I never heard back from them.

So why self-publish? Well, to put it simple. Why not?

Who does it harm? And if I’m living my dream, isn’t that what matters most? Sure…the option is out there to continue to submit to large publishing agencies, but why do that? Those who enjoy the world I’ve created know where to find me, they share my stories with their friends and family, they comment, review and blog about the stories. So…in short (long) I love what I’m doing, I love my friends and readers I’ve been blessed to have in my life, and being a self-published author gives me the ability to have control over how my books are spread throughout the world.

I do interact with other authors; I support them and send kudos to those whose work I enjoy. I may not be the most popular writer out there, but I am me and I can proudly share my work without the pressure of having to answer to anyone other than my readers that I’m proud to call friends.

Wishing you all the best adventures in reading, writing and in life!

 NEWS UPDATE!

Have you ever wondered how a story begins?

I’ve often been asked, “How do you come up with your story ideas?”

My sister is famous for calling me and telling me about one of her twisted or scary dreams. She's quick to say that I should build a story from it. There are times when yes, I can see a great novel forming, and other times where I see it being a short campfire story.

Now I admit…all the stories I've written are based upon my quiet time. I may be lying in bed, quietly resting in that lull state, where I can hear everything around me, but my mind isn't quite ready to take a break. Within moments, I’m sitting up with a pen and notepad in hand. A few hours later, the outline to a new story has been created before my very eyes. Once it's all written, I can then go to sleep.

The most recent story is untitled. It is about Cain, he is one of the brothers three who guards Raine. If you’ve read New Raine, then you know who I am speaking of.

It has been four days of the same scene running through my head. There is not much change, besides how the female looks. How she interacts with him is always the same way. Each night, I lie in bed and try my very best to ignore the scenes that unravelled before me, but I can’t. It is an endless loop that must be written. I quietly snuck out of bed and wrote four chapters.

I was rather upset with my characters, because I had appointments the next day and I really needed to have a good nights sleep. I am beginning to think that my characters are haunting me. :)

I am commonly asked, “What do you do for a living and do you like it?”
I always respond, “I am an author and it owns me. I don’t have normal hours, and thankfully my family is very supportive. Sometimes I’m locked away for days at a time.”

I ask you, my fellow writers, readers and bloggers. Am I the only one who experiences this or is it normal for all authors to have their dream career own them? Not that I mind, I just wonder if it’s normal.

Let me know,
Sass:)

What does a regular person blog about?

So here I am, Sass Cadeaux, blogging. I asked my editor and friend what I am supposed to blog about. She said what I do on a daily basis, life, family, if I'm going to the grocery store...basically what other authors, actors and people in the public eye blog about.

My response..."But I'm Sass, I am nothing special nor am I exciting."

Her response... "Your readers and fans may think differently, they want to get to know you. How you come up with your stories and things like that."

How do I come up with my stories? Some are based on dreams that I remember, some are based on my incredible family showing traits that you wouldn't normally see in other people. My husband is a barbarian in every way. My son Andrew is a vampire, no other way to describe him; and my youngest son DJ is a necromancer, he brings life into things that society may have forgotten.

What do I mean? Well, my husband will speak his mind without worry of what others think. He says it like it is, he has embarrassed me, but he's also made me proud that he is who he is. With him it's black or white, good or bad and right or wrong--he doesn't see gray, he is married and gives me his all. He is a roofer and when we hit hard times, he once put a roof on a house in the middle of a snowstorm at seven dollars a bundle just to make sure that we could buy the medication for our son and put food on the table.

He is a barbarian...in my eyes a barbarian will tear a tree out of the ground to build a shelter for the ones he loves. A barbarian will kill to protect and he will love with all his heart. He will not share his heart with many, but the few that he does will know that they matter. That is my husband. He is without prejudice, one of the most important guys in my life. He knows he's not number one because of our boys, he knows that our children surmount him but that without him, we wouldn't be a family.

Why do I say my son Andrew is a vampire? Well, to me a vampire is passionate about life, music and, basically, everything. I believe a vampire wears their heart on their sleeve. They've lived a long life and see the world differently than most. That is without a doubt my Andrew.

Andrew is passionate about his art, his music (his guitar is his first real love) and his family. He loves wholeheartedly and when he falls for someone, she is all he sees. If another girl flirts with him, he doesn't see it because he's in love and that woman is the only woman in the world. He's a lot like his dad in that aspect.

When Andrew's in love...he worries, loves and gives his all to her.  I've witnessed his first love, first break up and his broken heart. I was helpless, and I hated how I couldn't fix that one injury. No band aid can mend a broken heart, time was his only cure and I couldn't make time speed up. Just thinking about it makes me cringe.

Why is DJ a necromancer? A necromancer brings life to the dead. Now, I admit, that's a gruesome way to look at things, but hear me out. DJ is different than most boys his age. He loves playing football, his guitar and video games like any other boy. But unlike others his age, he loves playing songs on his guitar by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Nirvana, and Def Leppard, whereas, his brother plays much heavier music. Drew is into Metallica, Megadeth and Slipknot. DJ isn't into a single type of music, he loves basically every genre you could think of; and, somehow, when he plays it, it's as if he's bringing new life into an old song.

DJ is a writer; his stories are unique and amazing, and he writes songs that tug on my heartstrings, make my foot tap and brings a sense of joy just by hearing him sing. Maybe I'm biased (and I'm sure I am) but when I read or hear his work, he brings out emotions in me that I cannot put into words.

And then there's me...boring, regular Sass. I am neither tall nor short. I am not pretty nor am I ugly. I'm not thin nor am I large. I am just plain, boring, nothing out of the norm, Sass.

What does a regular person blog about? What makes me any more special than another? Nothing! Not a darn thing. That is why I don't see fans as fans. My fans are my new friends that I haven't met in person just yet.

My fans and I have a lot in common. We share the same passion for reading, storytelling and life. We love reading about love, falling in love, adventure, humor, vampires, were-animals and, basically, all supernaturals. I write and share my stories with this amazing world. I love my family, hiking, nature, writing and this incredible world as a whole.

There are days when I sit at the dinner table, where I sit back and look at my family in awe. I live with a barbarian, a vampire and a necromancer. We are not rich in funds but we are rich in love. I am the luckiest (average) woman in the world.

So this is me, Sass, sharing my blog with you, the amazing world. I hope I haven't bored you and I hope to hear from you soon. More to come and much more to share. Oh, by the way...if you have a chance, check out my books on Lulu.

Wishing you the best adventures in reading, writing and in life!
Sass:)
